Providence School Update

Providence School, 1916. D.M. Durst Collection

In 1871, the Providence School District was the school established in Big Valley on the Lassen County jurisdiction. You read more about if here.

A school house was built two miles south of Adin.  I recently came across this deed. On June  16, 1911 R.C. Hoyt granted a parcel  to the Providence School District in SW 1/4 Section 10, Township 38 North Range 9 East. It included two specific clauses:

First: That this land be used as a yard for the Providence School District and Second: That the fence be kept up in good condition so that stock cannot pass through and in case this the foregoing is not complied with this deed is void. Since I do not have access to my maps, I cannot examine is the original location of the school.

Briefly, in 1953, the school was annexed to the Adin Joint Unified School and Providence Farm Bureau took over the ownership of the school.
