In honor of my father’s birthday, this post will be brief. He began his logging career working at Camp Harvey. His next venture was with his brother James, and they formed Purdy Brothers Logging. This grew into a larger outfit known as Susanville Logging. Circumstances beyond his control saw that company dissolved in the early 1960s. The next re-incarnation was L&M Logging. Just some random related photographs for your enjoyment.
Your posts bring back a lot of memories. My dad worked in both woods teams and in sawmills in and around Bieber in the early to mid fifties. We kids, four of us, all went to Bieber schools. Dad lost his best friend to a run away log near Hayden Hill. Dad lost a truck that looked much like the wrecked one you show here. He was unharmed. These memories are simultaneously great and sad. But none are bad.
My wife and I now live in a rural area of Michigan. But are now retired and seriously considering moving back to Big Valley. I still feel the pull to return after being gone for 50 plus years.
Thanks for the memories,
Bob Winter
We are looking for a picture of Nathan Bieber circa 1900 can you help?
Tunny Zunino was my uncle. My Dad was Lidamo Pollastrini,Tunny was his brother. My father drove that same truck in that picture. I have some pictures at home. Tunny later on bought a off highway Dart and hauled into Fruit Growers. Our family knew all the Purdy brothers. My father also owned part interest in the B&B bar on upper main street. I worked with Leroy in the 80s hauling sinders on looging road for Shaffer. Thankyou for the memories!
