On A Clear Day

Susanville, 1938—Hank Martinez

One of the items that caught my attention about this particular photograph was the clarity of the skies. Notice that both lumber mills—-Fruit Growers and Lassen Lumber—were idle and not belching large copious s amounts of black smoke. In addition, look at the background behind the mills, as that area remained untouched from development.

  1. I love this photo, but I’m having trouble orienting myself. Could you give me some idea of where this was taken from, what direction it is looking toward, and what the road is running through the middle?

    thanks! Oliver Grosz

  2. Oliver, The street where the wording is, takes off from Riverside Dr. and goes down Prospect Ave. The photo was more than likely taken from Inspiration Point looking South East. The tall pointed pole is the old court house on the bottom left.
