Since it is an Election Day, I thought some might be interested Peter Gerig’s Application to Serve as Election Officer. Pete was first elected as a Lassen County Board of Supervisor in 1920. He ran every four years through 1944. He retired at the end of his term in 1948.

Pete Gerig must have been an awfully good person. Mom (Evelyn Myers Coppedge) told me he paid for 4-H members from low-income families to go to an event at UC Davis. And it was widely known in the Myers family that when Grandfather Myers died in the hospital in Susanville (several days after he sent Grandmother home because he seemed to be recovering well from his ruptured appendix, and because their five children were at home in the care of Grandmother’s elderly uncle and he was concerned about them) Pete Gerig was the one who went out to the ranch to let them know. He wasn’t a family friend – just doing what he felt to be his job. A Very Nice Person indeed!
