A Sad College Graduation Indeed

Lassen College Yearbook, 1973-Courtesy of Jim Chapman

On November 12, 2025, the Governing Board of the Lassen College Trustees voted to terminate its gunsmithing program, the oldest in the nation. Thus, with this graduation today, will be last of the gunsmithing graduates as this program will cease to exist at the end of academic year. A successful program, but there were those who finally succeeded in a ten-year period to abolish it. Enough said on my part.

  1. I agree Tim, it is a sad time to see such a great program ended. The art created by the smithing school has been incredible. I do not hunt, or even target shoot anymore, but I cherish the fine arms that have been produced by that program. When Monty Arnold was an instructor there, he produced several pieces for my family. One, a beautifal 22-250 Mannlicher machines down from a Springfield 30-06 action is a beautiful work of art. It is sad that the efforts of a small minded populace succeed in censoring a true art.
