In 1900, there were over seventy rural schools and post offices scattered throughout Lassen County. Little Valley, located south of Big Valley, was of no exception. Its school district was established in 1885, and in 1926, due to a decline in population the school was abolished. In 1929, Mary Gassaway purchased the abandoned schoolhouse from Lassen County for $75. What is rather peculiar the Little Valley Post Office was not established until 1948.

There is something wrong. Cloverine (Bognuda) Corder many times told me of how they came from Clover Valley in Plumas County in 1918 to Little Valley. Clover and her little sister Lilliam rode bare back to the La Mar ranch to attend school which is half way between Dixie Ranch and Little Valley. The reason being two children at Little Valley, two at the La Mar ranch and not sure how many from Dixie. I am
not sure how long but every time it snowed hard she would
repeat the story. It seem to me 1921/22 is when it ended
all the La Mar Children were gone.
