Ranching

In a previous post I mentioned my special affinity concerning logging. This also applies to farming and ranching in the region, as my mother’s family has been engaged in ranching in the region since the 1860s, and the tradition continues.

There are so many aspects of the agricultural community that needs to be recorded. Reclamation and the dry land farming experiments played an important role in the development of the region. The dairy industry was prominent for many years, but that aspect has been rarely written about it. Hopefully, that situation can be corrected and please feel free to share any information you might have, so more of us can be enlightened.

  1. I’m trying to find a family linage associated with the XL Ranch. Do you have information about the XL Ranch in CA before 1938 when it became a reservation? Maybe there’s a link to that period of history innoth eastern CA.

I enjoyed visiting in Oregon near Adel and hope to get down into CA
